Friday, November 10, 10:15 - 11:30 p.m., my piano student student Ben Von Korff is performing with the Snaps Sextet at Jazz Central Studios, 407 Central Ave SE, Minneapolis, as part of Jazz Central’s emerging masters series. General admission is $10 and $5 for students. The Snaps Sextet is a group from Mankato, MN made up of students attending MNSU-Mankato. The group plays traditional and contemporary standards as well as recent compositions and covers of popular songs, and is advised by Dr. Douglas Snapp from MNSU-Mankato.

This monthly series on the last Saturday of the month features local groups playing one set of music of a classic jazz artist, followed by a presentation of Leigh Kamman’s interviews with the subject, ending with one more set of original music.

Tonight’s show is “Bob Brookmeyer, Leigh Kamman, and Valves Meets Slides.” Valves Meet Slides, the trombone led group featuring Brad Bellow and Dave Graf will perform a set of material of legendary trombonist Bob Brookmeyer, with Leigh Kamman interviews Brookmeyer, followed by original music.
