Saturday, June 2, 7:30 p.m., Premier of the Larry McDonough Composition “Strait of Gibraltar” for Two Cellos, Drums, and Tablas, Performed by Jelloslave, Jacqueline Ultan, Michelle Kinney, Greg Schutte, and Gary Waryan, at the American Composers Forum Showcase Concert, Open Eye Theatre, 506 E 24th St , Minneapolis. Strait of Gibraltar (Estrecho de Gibraltar/Bab Al Maghrib) includes two movements, Sirocco Winds of Morocco and Tango Dance of Spain. Larry is one of three composers in residence along with Robin Holcomb and Harriet Steinke. Jelloslave also will perform works by Mary Ellen Childs, Michelle Kinney, and Jacqueline Ultan.

Doors open at 6:45 PM, with a concert start time of 7:30 PM and a reception following the concert. Reserve your seat(s) here.

Saturday, June 2, 9:00 p.m., “Alice in Stonehenge and other AcoustElectric Adventures” CD Release Show, Saturday Night Jazz at The Black Dog with the Larry McDonough Quartet, Larry McDonough, piano and vocals, Richard Terrill, saxes and poetry, Greg Stinson, bass, and Nathan Norman, drums, Black Dog Coffee and Wine Bar, 320 Prince Street at the corner of Prince (4th Street) and Broadway,  Lowertown, St. Paul.

The opening act is Inventions and Dimensions with Chris Bates, Joe Strachan and Miguel Hurtado, 7:00 to 8:30.

Shows are always NO COVER, so come down and check out the music any Saturday for free. A Tip Jar that is passed around once per set. Also, individuals can pay $20 in advance to reserve seat at a table near the stage.

Linden Street, Northfield, MN (507) 645-7660. Larry McDonough was a good friend of Paul and Sheila going back to 1984 when Paul and Larry served on a board of directors. Larry advised Paul on housing policy and played music for many of Paul’s events. Larry’s CD Tuscarora: Short Stories for Jazz Piano includes all of the music he played at Paul’s event and is dedicated to Paul, Sheila, and Wellstone Action.

Admission to all Arts Center performances is $10 at the door. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. for cash refreshments by Patrick’s on Third and Morgan Creek Vineyards, co-sponsors of Arts Center events. Music begins at 7:30 p.m. and concludes by 9:30 p.m.

The series is hosted by KMSU Radio host Gary Campbell, who delivers brief introductory remarks about the evening’s repertoire. The series is made possible by support from the State Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund, as appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature to KMSU Radio.
