The Larry McDonough Group returns to Berlin to celebrate the release of their new CD Best of the Aster Classic Jazz Series, which filled the Aster Café in April, with one set from the CD, along with a second set of the music of Dexter Gordon including music from the 1986 Oscar winning film Round Midnight.
The Larry McDonough Trio show packed Berlin in the Fall and Winter. If you missed the shows then, do not miss this one.

The Larry McDonough Quartet will perform a set of material of Dexter Gordon including music from the 1986 Oscar winning film Round Midnight. The Larry McDonough Quartet celebrates the two recordings of Dexter Gordon and Herbie Hancock based on the movie – Round Midnight and The Other Side of Round Midnight. Round Midnight is a soundtrack album by Herbie Hancock featuring music recorded for the film. Pieces in Round Midnight and Body and Soul. Herbie Hancock won an Oscar for the soundtrack. The Other Side of Round Midnight was recorded during the making of the film Round Midnight, with tracks that were not included in the soundtrack album for the film.
Pieces and poems will include Long Tall Dexter, Darn That Dream, Poem by Richard Terrill, Body and Soul, Round Midnight, Moment’s Notice, As Time Goes By, Tanya, and more!

Award-winning pianist, composer, and singer Larry McDonough brings legendary pianist and composer Bill Evans back to life in a solo show covering his music and personal life that has filled rooms across the country. The show includes piano and voice, spoken word, and commentary on the life of Bill Evans.
Evans performed on the Miles Davis album "Kind of Blue" in 1959, the best-selling jazz album ever. His trio with bassist Scott LaFaro and drummer Paul Motian introduced simultaneous improvisation and is regarded as a seminal modern jazz trio. He received 31 Grammy nominations and seven awards, and was inducted into the DownBeat Jazz Hall of Fame.
McDonough will record the show for a future CD. Come for the show and be on the recording!
Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Children under 12 are free.

And, together with Pauline Jennings, Barb fronts a tribute group called “Feeling Groovy, Simon and Garfunkel With a Twist”, with the most recent show at Crooner’s Supper Club in Mpls.
