Saturday, June 29, 1:45 p.m., Poetry and Jazz in the Holy Ground, with a jazz prelude and postlude by Larry McDonough, piano, and Richard Terrill, saxes, at the historic Pioneers & Soldiers Memorial Cemetery, 2945 Cedar Ave., Minneapolis, MN 55407, at Lake Street and Cedar Avenue in Minneapolis. This year, the event will also include the launch of the poetry chapbook “THE NATIONS UNDERGROUND: Writing With Our Ancestors,” featuring over a dozen area poets who have written poems to or from their ancestors. Poets will read from the chapbook, along with featured poets Margaret Hasse, Patrick Cabello Hansel and Dralandra Larkins. There will also be a hands-on lantern making workshop led by local artists from the Semilla Center for Healing and the Arts.

Sunday, June 30, 5:30-7:00 p.m., Larry McDonough, piano and voice, performing “Conversations with Bill Evans” at Crooner’s Dunsmore Jazz Room at 6161 Hwy 65 NE, Minneapolis, MN 55432. $20. 

Larry McDonough returns to Crooners Supper Club for the Minnesota premier of “Conversations with Bill Evans.” The show filled Martuni's in San Francisco in April. Larry will perform music from his recent CD "Kind of Bill on the Palace Grounds," a new live recording covering the career of Bill Evans, and more! 

Evans performed on the Miles Davis album "Kind of Blue" in 1959, the best-selling jazz album ever. His trio with bassist Scott LaFaro and drummer Paul Motian introduced simultaneous improvisation and is regarded as a seminal modern jazz trio. He received 31 Grammy nominations and seven awards, and was inducted into the DownBeat Jazz Hall of Fame.
