IGGYVANWHO

As the leader of the "IGGYVANWHO" Jeff is a Minnesota based saxophonist, with a growing reputation as one of the Twin cities most dynamic up and coming jazz artists. The band consists of four members, Michael O'brian bass, Mark O'day on drums, Chris Micek on guitar and Jeff on Tenor and Alto sax. The band plays a interesting variety of music, including Jazz standard and reworked versions of many classic tunes. There is also a funk/fusion element, as well as some amusing "twists" on some old favorites.

In addition to this project, Jeff has performed professionally as a solo artist, side man, and has been featured in various pop and rhythm and blues projects. Born in St. Paul in 1965, Jeff has been polishing his craft for 15 years. From his beginnings studying with Ruben Haugen, Pat Moriarty and Wayford Johnson, to his more recent club and concert performances, Jeff has developed a solid reputation as one of the Twin Cities most engaging young saxophonists. He has also taught private saxophone instruction for over 10 years, currently at Cadenza Music in St. Paul {612-644-3611} and at Lakewood-Century College.


THE JEFF KING QUINTET

Formed in 1994, this group features a fantastic lineup of some of the areas finest musicians including : Chris Lomheim {piano}, Jim Chenoweth {bass}, Phil Holm {trumpet}, and Pat Hulme {drums}. As of late the group has been performing at the "Dakota Bar and Grill", the Twin Cities premier jazz venue, as well as other local engagements. Playing creative original compositions as well as bop and traditional standards, this group has been received extremely well by audiences, and has been featured on two "Cookin at the Dakota" radio programs on KEBM {88.5 FM}. Jeff and the group plan to begin work on an album soon. You can also check out Jeff and pianist Chris Lomheim's duet performances at the Dakota and other local venues.

THE TWIN CITIES JAZZ SOCIETY

The TCJS featured Jeff's "West Coast Jazz Tribute" as their opening concert of the 1994 "J to Z"concert series. This was a well publicized, highly received event, offering a historical look at the "cool" west coast jazz scene of the 1950's, playing to a near sellout audience.

THE LAKEWOOD BIG BAND

As a member of this group {1985-1995}, under the direction of John Zdechlik, Jeff performed with national recording artists including Nick Brignola, Bud Shank, Clark Terry, Bill Watrous, and Bobby Shew as well as numerous local concerts regional festivals, as well as a 1990 South American tour. The big band recorded and released two CD's, "Lullaby of the Leaves", and "Together Again", on which Jeff can be heard as a featured soloist.

OTHER PROJECTS

Jeff was a member of the jazz group "Jordu", rhythm and blues groups "The Boogie Men"and "Groove Therapy", and has performed with many other local artists including Ruth Makenzie, Tom Linker (Minnesota dance theater production of "Rumblings"), Judi Donaghy, Vicky Mountain, Gene Adams, Cornbread Harris, and the "Cedar ave. Big Band". Also included in this list are appearances with "CBO", The Senders, The Slim Hippo's,"Remmys Orchestra"and George Faber. Jeff is also currently a member of "Metro Jam", performing mostly cooperate and private functions.
